As we head into our Eleventh Battle here at Iron Blog, it is time to take a look at the State of our Union, so to speak.
There were doubters early on who thought we'd never get very far, but we have 10 Battles under our belt and are closing in on 200 posts to date, having been around for nearly 3 months, now. We've had our share of rough spots and controversies, and we've weathered them and show no signs of slowing. We've learned from our mistakes and made adjustments as the need has arisen to do so. We've grown, both in readership and in wisdom. For all of this, I thank you.
I thank my Iron Bloggers, past and present, from my first IB confirmed and first to step down, the always-passionate Robin, to our newest who faces her first Battle this week, Dru. I thank Jay, the most prolific and most senior of our current Iron Bloggers, and his arch nemesis and friend, former Iron Blogger Rosemary. I thank Vinod, our Iron Blogger who so few want to face, as every Challenger either admits their admiration of him or their intimidation at the thought of Challenging him. And I thank Dan, our first Challenger to win over an Iron Blogger and our first participant ever to win as both a Challenger and an Iron Blogger.
I thank our Challengers: Ara, Jimmie, Chris, Dean, Dan, Owen, Pineapple Girl, Stirling, Frank and now, Bryan. Each of you has added something to our little forum and left it a better place for having been here.
I thank the Judges, all who have served from our first Battle to our current one, and those who will serve in the future. Without them, we couldn't do this.
And last but certainly not least, I thank the readers for their patronage, involvement and participation in full-contact Blogging. Our debates would exist in a vaccuum if not for you, and each and every one of you have helped us to become what we are.
We are hoping to bring many changes in the months ahead. I'm planning a move to our own webspace with our own domain name, a transition to MT, a number of added features like a web forum for daily discussion and debate and much more. I want Iron Blog to be more than the game show of Blogging - I want it to be a truly multi-partisan home for thoughtful and courageous discussion of the day's issues. To do this, I need your help.
First, we need more Challengers. It's hard and takes some work, but it is also some of the most fun you can have Blogging. If you can spare a few hours a day for 4 days over the course of a week, please - be a Challenger.
Second, we need Judges. After August 15th, we'll be down to 3 Lefties and will have to switch to a 3 Judge Panel full-time out of necessity. Judging, too, is not easy and takes time, but it is a worthwhile endeavor for anyone who wants to see open debate grow on the internet.
And lastly, we need assistance. Whether it's a monetary donation to help us pay for webspace or register our domain name, help designing our MT Style Sheet, donated space on a server, writing email to your favorite Blogs to get us more attention or anything else, we need your help, and we've never needed it more than we do, now.
Iron Blog has the potential to be something big, something special. I thank all of you who have helped us get to where we are, today, and ask for your continued assistance and dedication to open dialogue and spirited debate. The echo chambers can be deafening.
Help us decrease the noise and increase the dialogue.
